That Would Make A Great... "Apocalypse: The Twelve" Edition

Apocalypse the 12 is the first X-men crossover of the 21st century. It started in Uncanny X-men 376, published in January of 2000. It involved Apocalypse bringing together 12 mutants in an attempt to gain the perfect balance of powers so that he may transfer his essence into one of them. The purpose of this scheme was to allow him to continue his legacy in a new and powerful body. The story's main impact was on Cyclops. This was the first step toward changing Cyclops' character into the revolutionary that he is today. Apocalypse possesses his body (contrary to his plan), and thus affects Cyclops at his core bringing about a new perspective that slowly erods his old ideals and eventually gives character more of a rough edge.

As is the case on this blog, the subject is not that of the merits of anything beyond X-men statues.  So I have picked out a series of images that I thought would make some interesting statues from this series.  The likelihood of any of these ever seeing the light of day is as big as Apocalypse seeing the light and joining the X-men but it's fun to explore the question of  what if.

Another standout feature of this story is that it involved a story arc that led to Wolverine becoming a horseman of Apocalypse.  The design for his costume in this role is interesting, and although doesn't completly make sense to me, I thought it would look really cool in a statue form.

The museum pose might work, but an action, running pose would be a good option as well.

Angel had an interesting moment in this story in which his wings turned into fire.  I thought this would be a great element in a statue that had his wings cast in clear resin.

Throw in Psylocke into a statue in this style and I think we have a clear winner.

It's always nice to see a Colossus in his classic costume, and I thought this image of Colossus by Mr. Alan Davis would make a great throwback statue.

I would be remiss if I left out my name sake.  I thought the following image would make a great Gambit statue in a flying kick pose.  Generally he's thought of as working best in a museum pose, or a dynamic pose with an arc of launched energized cards, but a statue in a different pose would also work.

Bishop has gone through several design incarnations throughout the years.  Although the following is not one that is often seen or referenced, I think it's interesting enough that a statue based on it would be a piece worth owning.

Cable plays an important role in this storyline.  In his stand alone title Rob Liefeld surprisingly did some artwork during this crossover.  Say what you will about his artwork, but he did design Cable, and so any time he draws him it's a special thing.

Although a standalone piece based on this artwork would be interesting, the following three images I thought would be great source material for some amazing diorama statues.

A diorama of Wolverine as death vs. Cable would be very cool.

Apocalypse versus Cable based on this image, would be an even better dio(rama).

Finally, this image, which has Apocalypse morphed into a serpent versus Cable, would make the most amazing dio.

I guess the only way any of these will ever see the light of my display room will be for Apocalypse to get 12 sculptors together and transfer their essence into him so that he might wield their power to create amazing statues.  I'll keep my fingers crossed in an X formation for this to happen.
