That Would Make A Great..."X-men: No More Humans" Edition

I just got through reading the first original X-men graphic novel since "God Loves,Man Kills", titled "No More Humans".  There were a few images in the graphic novel, drawn by Salvador Larocca, that I think would make for some great statues.  They inspired me to resurrect the "That Would Make A Great..." post series.

That Would Make A Great..."X-treme X-men volume 1" Edition Part 1

Extreme X-men volume one is an interesting comic.  For one thing it was written by Chris Clarement and thus should have simply been a series of stories within Uncanny X-men.  Since Grant Morrison basically became the captain of the X-ship at the time, X-tremne X-men was sort of a way to keep old X-fans happy (this is all conjecture of course).  It actually wound up being pretty bland in its storytelling ( imo ) but the art was very cool.  Salavador Larroca drew some elaborate, detailed and highly styled works that I thought were some of the best since the departure of Jim Lee and Joe Mad.

That Would Make A Great..."Avengers vs. X-men ( A v X ) " Edition

A v X was the big Marvel event crossover of 2012.  It's a divisive storyline for comic fans.  Some folks loved it and others thought it was worse than the shit that a shit-monster poops into a bowl of barf (to put it nicely).  Regardless of where you land on this subject, what is undeniable is that there was a lot of really great statue potential in the 12 issue mini-series.  Let's explore some of this potential.

That Would Make A Great..."Age of Apocalypse: Rogue" Edition

This is the second post in the Age of Apocalypse "That Would Make A Great" series. As we all know (or are about to know) in the 90's Marvel killed off Professor Xavier in the past and reinvented the present with Apocalypse as the ruler of the mutant dominated world. It was a mind-boggling move for a teenage comic fan like myself to be exposed to which resulted in a permanent reverence for it. Since this essentially became an alternate reality, all the characters in the X-verse (and some throughout the Marvel universe) were redesigned. As a fan of X-statues and this era, I dream of an entire set of these designs being made as statues. Hopefully it'll happen one day.

Today's "That Would Make A Great..." post focuses on the newly imagined design of Rogue. Since all the characters were re imagined, all the designs are too big  for one post. Thus I'll be focusing on them in a variety of posts dedicated to this era.

That Would Make A Great..."Age of Apocalypse: Apocalypse" Edition

The Age of Apocalypse (AoA) is one of my favorite X-men storylines. In the 90's Marvel killed off Professor Xavier in the past and reinvented the present with Apocalypse as the ruler of the mutant dominated world. It was a mind-boggling move for a teenage comic fan like myself to be exposed to which resulted in a permanent reverence for it. As a fan of X-statues and this era, I dream of an entire set of these designs being made as statues. Hopefully it'll happen one day.

Today's "That Would Make A Great..." post focuses on the newly imagined design of Apocalypse. Since all the characters were re imagined, all the designs are too big  for one post. Thus I'll be focusing on them in a variety of posts dedicated to this era.

That Would Make A Great..."X-treme X-men v2 #8-12" Edition

Although the current volume of X-treme X-men is no more, there are certainly a huge amount of interesting ideas within it that could inspire some great statues.  The series dealt with Dazzler being whisked off into multiple dimensions on a mission to kill evil Xaviers that were hell bent on destroying the multiverse.  What's most interesting about the unique versions of the characters she encountered in her travels is that a couple of them have now entered the normal Marvel universe (earth 616).  What this means for future continuity is up in the air, but I for one and very excited about the possibilities.

That Would Make A Great... "Apocalypse: The Twelve" Edition

Apocalypse the 12 is the first X-men crossover of the 21st century. It started in Uncanny X-men 376, published in January of 2000. It involved Apocalypse bringing together 12 mutants in an attempt to gain the perfect balance of powers so that he may transfer his essence into one of them. The purpose of this scheme was to allow him to continue his legacy in a new and powerful body. The story's main impact was on Cyclops. This was the first step toward changing Cyclops' character into the revolutionary that he is today. Apocalypse possesses his body (contrary to his plan), and thus affects Cyclops at his core bringing about a new perspective that slowly erods his old ideals and eventually gives character more of a rough edge.

That Would Make A Great..."X-men (v4) #1" Edition

I love that there is now an X-book focusing on a team of only female members.  The X-men have always been to me an allegorical vehicle for a discourse on civil rights struggles for all the marginalized groups of society.  Although women have made great strides the last century, there still needs to be special attention paid to the fact that we're living in a traditionally patriarchal society.  An all X-female book can do that in the X-books.

That Would Make A Great..."Cable and X-force #8" Edition

I don't know about you but I am really enjoying the new Cable and X-force series.  I really like the line up.  I really like the art.  I really like the stories (so far).

That Would Make A Great... "X-men: The End" Edition

I finally read the 2005-2006, 3 book (18 issue) miniseries X-men: The End.  It was written by one of the central X-men storytellers of the last 20+ years, Chris Claremont.  It tells the tale of the X-men (the version of the team in the early 2000s) 15 years in the future in which all sorts of mind-blowing events take place.  I won't go too far into the details, but its safe to say that if you haven't read it, you're in for a roller coaster ride of X-madness!

Of course there was quite a bit of eye candy and interesting character designs that would serve as great inspiration for some fantastic statues.  The following are just a few images that I gleaned from the various issues which were standout candidates.  It goes without saying that there was way more potential than what you see here in those fantastic books.

That Would Make A Great... "All New X-men #11" Edition

I thought this image could inspire a really great diorama of Magneto holding Wolverine up using his powers.

With the right sculptor and a transparent rod I think it would be super impressive.  It would also be a great excuse to have Magneto in his new costume in statue form. Now that would rock!

That Would Make A Great... "Gambit 9, 10 and 11" Edition

Gambit and Rogue both need more attention in the third dimension. The more statues made the better. Gambit issue 9 had an interesting premise which allowed Gambit to once again put on his 90's costume. I think this would make a really good museum pose Gambit statue:

That Would Make A Great..." X-factor 250-251" Edition

All the X-factor characters have been given the shaft as far as three dimensional representations go.  My question is WHY!  WHY! WHY! WHY!

Peter David's X-factor is such a great book to read and the characters are all so unique and interesting in so many ways that I feel that they deserve not just a couple of statues made but an entire set.

That Would Make A Great..."Ultimate X-men 20-24" Edition

For some reason Rogue is always drawn in a way that makes her ripe for the statue inspiration pickings. First off is this image from Ultimate X-men v2 #20

That Would Make A Great..."Uncanny X-men (v3) #3" Edition

This is the first installment of what I hope will be a regular Blog feature, "That Would Make A Great..." in which I post images from new X-men comics that I've read recently that I think would make a great statue... bust... blow up doll...whatever have you.

First up is this rendition of Magneto in his new duds by the legenday Chris Bachalo.  I think the statue would need to be a little less stylized, but I think this would certainly make a great statue.

Of course, if you don't agree with me you can always...
